I am a faculty member at the
University of British Columbia's School of Library, Archival, and Information Studies. My research is motivated by a deep concern for the long-term influence of information technology on the human condition. Through a range of projects, I investigate the following challenges:
-
How do interactions with information technologies support or constrain individuals trying to live by an explicit set of values?
-
How can an information system and associated practices help people work through and overcome societal problems which will likely span multiple generations (e.g., genocide, environmental degradation, epidemic illness)? Additionally, what steps do we take to ensure that these information systems are sustainable over the long-term?
