As a graduate student I was a Graduate Student Instructor for Linguistics 110 Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology. Professor Keith Johnson was the instructor for the course. The general purpose of Ling 110 is to equip undergraduate students with the skills to do basic phonetic analysis and description. Based on my performance teaching in Ling110 during Fall 2007, the Department of Linguistics presented me with the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award. After receiving this award, I was invited to submit an essay for the university-wide Teaching Effectiveness Award. My essay was among those selected for this award.
