I received my PhD from UCLA in 2001. Before joining UBC in 2006, I have worked at UCSD and SMU. My philosophical interests are in metaphysics, language and logic. My main philosophical project centers on the natural grounds and sources of necessity, but I am also interested in belief, other attitudes, and causation. I have done some work in philosophy and history of logic focused on the distinction between formal semantics and natural interpretations, and between models and reality.
