Pete had always enjoyed a reputation for humourless and austere piety. His religion expected it, and his profession demanded it. To be sure, it would not have done his position any good to be seen as the laughing coroner or the comedian deacon.

Until now, that reputation was assumed to extend to personal as well as professional relationships. Those of us who did not know him as well as we might have naturally expected that the public man shared the same personality with the private man.

How wrong we can be in our understanding of other people. If Pete's reputation were deserved, surely Meta would not have taken so many humourous photos of him. As a matter of fact, whnever the situation is most bizarre and whenever the photo is downright goofy, Peter C Robertson, M.D. is right in the middle of it.
