Arthur jokingly referred to keeping "peace in the family" as he sat down to write an overdue postcard, but there were times when that may not have been a laughing matter.
Otherwise known as "Mamie" or "Molly" or "Robbie" , Marion was Emma's closest sister and best friend, probably throughout their lives. Marion was the sister that Emma and her children most talked about, and I would guess the one they knew best.
Marion and Emma were both very accomplished fabric artists and often quilted together. There are a number of pieces of very beautiful and finely crafted needlework still in existence. Most of us cannot tell which pieces were made by which sister, though Bin could always identify the individual work as if it were a signature.
Marion was married to Arthur Manning in late 1912 or early 1913, and from then on they lived in Reston. Photos of Arthur with Emma suggest that he remained close to her after Marion's death.
