2010/11 - Term 2 - Scenery Design 1
Principles and Practice in Scenery Design for the Theatre
Thursday 1:00 – 4:00 - FWT 018
THTR 305 introduces design concepts and processes for Scenographers. The course will consist of weekly assignments intended to explore the students' design potential and to develop the kind of skills needed by professional Scenographers. Assignments in the Spring 2011 Semester will be focussed on Eugenne O'Neill's Desire Under the Elms. This play is chosen because it fits chronologically and stylistically between the plays in the Theatre at UBC Season. It also allows the opportunity to investigate an archetypal story that has been reiterated over several millenia. Please see the Schedule and Reading Lists for more detailed information.
The University accommodates students with disabilities who have registered with the Disability Resource Centre. The University accommodates students whose religious obligations conflict with attendance, submitting assignments, or completing scheduled tests and examinations. Please let your instructor know in advance, preferably in the first week of class, if you will require any accommodation on these grounds. Regular attendance is expected of students in all their classes (including lectures, laboratories, tutorials, seminars, etc.). Students who neglect their academic work and assignments may be excluded from the final examinations.
