English 110: Heroes |

| This course will introduce students to English studies through the theme of heroism. We will explore ideas of the heroic across periods and genres. Clusters within the broader theme will include heroes and nationalism, female heroes, and unlikely heroes.
The reading list will include Beowulf; William Shakespeare's, Henry V; Arthurian poetry by Alfred Lord Tennyson and Algernon Charles Swinburne; Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market; World War I poetry; J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit; Neil Gaiman's Sandman chronicles; and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. |
