As
in the William Smith edition of 1839, the modern
French translation of Froissart by Mme de Witt, published by Hachette in
1881, drew on medieval manuscripts of Froissart for many of its illustrations.
You can see the original of the illustration above in the online exhibition

Charles V. The two small pages below show how this printing sometimes
mimicked the layout of manuscript pages. Click the small images to see larger
