This German-language site includes a huge database of information about manuscripts in the German-speaking world; a collection of manuscript catalogues from many libraries, scanned for online consultation, and 89 digital facsimiles of medieval manuscripts and a few early printed books.

Thumbnails provide a quick overview of the manuscripts presented in this format, from libraries in Darmstadt, Heidelberg, Marburg, and Berlin. The facsimiles from this last library are in black and white, but the others are in full colour. Perhaps the most famous manuscript on the site is the Codex Manesse (Heidelberg, Cod. pal. germ. 88), a collection of Middle High German poetry whose many illustrations are often to be found today illustrating books and pages on courtly love. The digital facsimile of the Codex Manesse is also available directly from Heidelberg; click here for that version. The list of folios on the welcome page appears to suggest that the site contains a selection of images only, but in fact these are offered as jumping-off points for the full digital facsimile. As on the main Manuscripta Medievalia site, you can flip through the whole facsimile page by page, using directional arrows.
