Meta was consumed with a passion. She was devoted, she was enslaved, she adored her Brownie 2A Folding Pocket Camera. You needed a big pocket to be sure, but most photographers were professionals, and most equipment was huge and heavy. It was only since 01 that this new exquisite little black box had made the art accessible to people like Meta. She spent every spare minute and every spare cent she had to shoot, process, print and mount her delightful photographic images. Everyone, everything and everywhere was a sutiable subject, an excuse for a photo. And if she was not herself shooting the picture, she gave her camera to someone else to shoot a few frames for her. She came to be known in the neighbourhood as "the Kodak Fiend."
It turns out now that hers was a very advantageous passion. For as much as Meta was in love with the craft of photography, she was equally enthralled with life on the prairies. Her images convey an obvious fondness for her people and the land they occupy. The result is a remarkable record of the daily life of a rural family. A story of love.
